Trimble S6 Total Station Accuracy 2026
Trimble S6 Total Station Accuracy: What Contractors Actually Need to Know
Proper setup determines whether you get advertised accuracy or something closer to 1/8 inch variance. On commercial jobs, I always establish a control point network before running the S6 through its calibration routines. The instrument requires clear line of sight between target and prism — vegetation or debris can throw off readings by several inches.
During concrete pouring operations last spring, the S6 handled dust conditions well when mounted on a sturdy tripod with vibration damping. The 2.4 GHz radio range extends to about 300 feet in open terrain but drops significantly around steel framing. I typically keep the operator within 150 feet for critical measurements.
Battery life is adequate for full-day operations — the MT1000 target includes two Li-ION batteries that last approximately 6 hours of continuous use. Carry spares, especially during peak season when downtime costs real money.
